Don’t like reading? A Quick Start Guide

Recommendation

Before starting your own project, use example input files to bypass step 3.

  1. Download and install Perple_X.

  2. Read, or at least skim, the description of the inversion strategy.

  3. Create the my_project.dat and my_project.imc input files (I/O File Format).

  4. Run MC_fit in a console or terminal window.

  5. Run MC_fit_plot to analyze the results (MC_fit_plot).

  6. Addicted to phase diagram sections?

    • Copy the bulk composition of the best central model my_project.out (I/O File Format) into my_project.dat, make sure that the molar/mass flag set on line 9 of my_project.dat indicates molar input.

    • Run VERTEX to compute the section and plot and analyze it with PSSECT and WERAMI.

    • Analysis with LinaForma ([Mackay2024]) or IntersecT ([Nerone2025]) may provide additional graphical insight into the inversion result.

  7. When does a bulk composition from MC_fit represent rock composition? Don’t know? You should, read Appendix B.
